Pet Insurance FAQ

What is lifetime pet insurance?

Lifetime cover is the most comprehensive type of pet insurance. The vet fee limit resets each year you renew, so your pet is covered for ongoing conditions like arthritis or diabetes up to the annual cap. Time-limited and maximum benefit policies are cheaper but stop paying out after a fixed period or amount.

Does pet insurance cover dental treatment?

Not always. ManyPets and Bought By Many include dental cover as standard on their lifetime policies. PetPlan includes dental on Covered Plus plans. Direct Line and Admiral do not include dental on standard policies — check the policy wording carefully.

How much does pet insurance cost in the UK?

Dog insurance typically costs £15–£40 per month depending on breed, age and cover level. Cat insurance is cheaper, usually £8–£20 per month. Lifetime cover is more expensive than time-limited but offers far better long-term protection.

Can I insure an older pet?

ManyPets and Bought By Many have no upper age limit for new policies. PetPlan also has no age limit. Direct Line caps new policies at 8 years and Admiral at 7 years. For senior pets, lifetime cover from an insurer with no age limit is strongly recommended.

What is a multi-pet discount?

Most insurers offer a discount when you insure more than one pet on the same account. ManyPets and Admiral offer 15% off; PetPlan and Direct Line offer 10%. This can make a real difference for multi-pet households.
